Consultations: Poetry World

Lara Egger, author of How to Love Everyone and Almost Get Away with It (University of Massachusetts Press, 2021)

“Scott Challener is an incredible teacher: brilliant, generous, insightful, and kind. From him, I learned, not only how to be a better writer, but also a better reader and thinker. Thanks to his workshops, I was introduced to books and poems that I now consider to be among my favorites—what a privilege, what a thrill! Furthermore, Scott was able to see the poet in me long before I could; it is not an exaggeration to say that his encouragement and mentorship changed the course of my life.”

Jen Funk, author of Fantasy Loving the Fantasy (Bull City Press, 2023)

“The exception that proves the rule, Scott is both not only a superlative teacher of poems, but a writer of verse both incisive and inquisitive, tender and unflinching.  Only the most gently ferocious of writers can help lead us into better communion with our own minds, and Scott Challener is of such a kind.”

I offer consultations to poets and writers. These serve a variety of purposes tailored to the writer, but may include manuscript work (including attention to specific poems as well as to longer projects, including chapbooks and full-length manuscripts); publishing (submissions to journals and presses); and applications (preparation of materials for MFA programs, teaching positions, residencies, institutes, and other opportunities). If you are interested in working with me, please reach out to me at scottchallener@gmail.com. I offer fees on a sliding scale.
